October Meeting Update

North Country Sportman's Club, located in Williston, Vermont, shoots Trap and 5 Stand all day on Sunday all year round and on Wednesday evenings during Daylight Savings Time. The meeting was called to order by the President, Tom Blair at 7:05pm.
The minutes of the September meeting was not available as the Secretary was not present.
The Treasurer's report was presented and accepted. After paying for our targets and paying current obligations, the club still has money in our checking account and seems to be in good shape for the winter, subject to fuel costs.
The need to put a Directors and Officers Insurance policy in place was reconfirmed. No adverse information has been identified for any board member, and we will apply for a policy quote this month.
We received fourteen pallets of targets on Saturday, September 27th from Lawry. This equates to 882 cases. See article below.
The Ruffed Grouse Society held a Fun Shoot at NCSC on September 20th. Thank you to everyone who helped to make this the success that is was, and thank you to the RGS for allowing us to host this event.
The NRA Trap Shooting Camp concluded last Sunday, with a total of ninety-seven participants during the program.
Ron Frye of Westford has been cutting firewood on the club property, with over fifty cords of wood having been cut so far. Ron will be working elsewhere for a few weeks, but plans to return in December to finish the project.
A Hunter Safety Instructors_ course will be held at the club on October 7th (See article).
A Hunter Safety Course will be held at the club during the week of October 13th. See article below.
The issue of a nominating committee for the 2009 slate of officers was brought up. Since we had no candidates for the nominating committee present, Tom will attempt to appoint a committee this month. (See article)
The meeting was adjourned at 9:00pm.

Ruffed Grouse Society Fun Shoot

Ruffed Grouse Society held their annual Fun Shoot and Fund Raiser at NCSC on September 20th. By all accounts the event went very well and everyone present had a great time. A huge thank you to all the NCSC members who turned out to help with this event.

Officers for 2009

It is time once again to nominate our 2009 slate of officers. Cindy Pease has indicated that her work schedule will not permit her to fill the position of Secretary next year. This is a great opportunity for someone who is looking for some way to make a contribution to the club to fill a very important position. And if you have an inclination to pursue another position, most of our officers are very flexible and ready to accommodate anyone new who would like to make a contribution. Please call an officer of the club if you have any interest or any questions.

The Birds are Here!

We received fourteen pallets (882 cases) of targets from Lawry on September 27th. This evolution went very well, thanks to a really good turnout of workers and the assistance of John Cleary and his forklift. John Cleary, of the Cleary Stone Company rented us his all-terrain forklift, with himself as operator. It was a huge help, and we were able to offload the entire shipment in just over an hour. I really want to offer a huge thank you to the people who showed up to help. You know, and I know who you are, but if I try to list everybody I will surely miss at least one person who will feel slighted, and we really do appreciate everyone who came to help! But I can confidently say Thank You to Mike Weaver who showed up with a big cooler of beer and soft drinks for after the job was done. That was a very big hit. Good job Mike.

Hunter Safety Instructor Course

Dale Goad will offer a Hunter Safety Instructor Course at NCSC on Tuesday evening, October 7th. Be at the club about 5:15 - 5:30 to get paperwork out of the way. This class is for experienced hunters who want to learn how to hold Hunter Education classes. You will be taking the class on_October 7th, and then fill out paperwork so that a background check can be done in order to be a State certified instructor. Then you will be off and teaching! _

Don't be discouraged if you are not an experienced hunter because you can gain experience by being a Certified Instructor's assistant. If you are looking for some experience so that you can become either a Certified Instructor - or just gain some experience to pass the Hunter's Education class, think about being an assistant. You can gain "credit" towards becoming certified by assisting as well. If you are in that bracket, there is no need to attend this class. However, Dale does want to get a list of people interested in helping during future Hunter Education Classes.

Hunter Safety Course

There will also be a Hunter Safety Course conducted at NCSC the week of October 13th. The course is for new hunters, and hunters new to Vermont who need to complete the Hunter Safety Course in order to obtain a Vermont Hunting License. The course will be held on the 13th, 14th, and 16th from 6:00pm - 9:00pm, and on Saturday the 18th from 8:00am to noon for the final exam and the practical field portion of the course. Leon Dunbar is conducting the course. If you have questions, please email him at mstrtazz@yahoo.com, or give him a call at 802-233-4580.
